Santa's Grotto , Belmont Community Centre

Many thanks for building the prefabricated structure which helped make possible the two Santa's Grottos held at the Belmont Community Centre on 11th & 18th December.

We are pleased to report that over 400 children attended on the two consecutive Saturdays, accompanied by at least 150 adults. Santa was kept busy listening to the children's requests and giving them each a present. The Grotto itself was much admired and everyone enjoyed visiting it. SWCA hope to put it to good use again this year.

Hard work by volunteers from the Apostolic Church, Newon Farm Community Association and South Wye Community Assocationalso made a major contribution to the success of these events.

Donations received amounted to £320 and this together with unused sponsorship money has been allocated to three local groups. Rainbows and Tots Group, who use the Belmont Community Centre and Woman@No14, the Oval will each receive £275 from the proceeds. This is in keeping with SWCA's wish to financially support and nurture other local groups whenever possible.

The project was of a single storey brick/block construction and tiled roof together with major external refurbishment of our existing offices. The site itself was difficult with access issues, adjoining properties and a very small working area.

We write as the architects for the conversion of the former cottage hospital in Kington Herefordshire, to a youth hostel for the Youth Hostel Association for which EC Joseph were appointed as main contractors.
The works were commissioned by Advantage West Midlands with the initial budget for the project being approx. £298,000 and the final account coming-in at £324,000.

The works were carried out during 2004 with the final certificate being issued in early 2006. That the final account figure rose was no reflection on EC Joseph and indicates the extent of additional works that were required to complete the project.

From the start EC Joseph exhibited good organization and management of the works and their willingness to respond quickly to both the need for additional works and the provision of properly costed variations assisted greatly in delivering the project.
Being a small company with short lines of communication we were always able to get a quick resolution to issues on site and the company's flexibility in allocating staffing resources to suit need together with a desire to provide a good quality product reflects well on them.

Post completion they responded promptly and without complaint to requests from both ourselves and the building users to any defects that arose. Should the opportunity arise we would have no hesitation in working with this contractor or suggesting their inclusion on any tender list, Should you require further information on this specific project please do not hesitate to contact this office.

There is just one thing still awaited. Luke said that we would receive a 'log' of all the work done, as a record for future fire inspections. This would be linked to the report from Neil Walton. Please could you get a copy of this to me asap?

I would like to add that I was extremely pleased with all the work done, neatly and efficiently and luckily able to use the outside courtyard to minimise disturbance in the house. I particularly appreciated how your men listened to my individual requirements, which, despite one or two of these adding to the cost, the whole bill is only three quarters of the total of the other estimate that we had. (NB - this is not a suggestion to put your prices up!)

Please pass my sincere thanks on to the two guys on site. I shall look forward to working with your company at Penpergwm again in the future.
